Oral Health

The Sacramento County Oral Health program contracts with the California Department of Public Health – Office of Oral Health through revenue generated by the California Healthcare Research and Prevention Tobacco Act of 2016/Proposition 56. The SCOHP plans, implements, and evaluates projects to support the goals of California Oral Health Plan 2018 – 2028. Projects include surveillance of school-based/linked oral health preventive programs, promoting compliance with the Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment mandate, providing tobacco- cessation and sugar-sweetened beverage resources to dental professionals, and improving overall oral health literacy.

Why is dental health important?

A healthy mouth, teeth and gums are essential to good overall health! Teeth are meant to last a lifetime. They help us chew food, speak clearly and smile. Healthy mouth habits prevent bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease. Keep your mouth healthy by brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day, flossing daily, eating a healthy diet and limiting added sugars, visiting the dentist regularly, and avoiding tobacco use.
